We already offer several K-Series shifter upgrades so it was definitely time for us to develop a clean and functional shift knob. The process begins with a solid billet bar of 6061 aluminum, and each knob is machined to final size on a CNC lathe. After the lathe, the blank knobs are sent out for the anodizing process. The black is hard anodized and the colors are regular anodized. During the final step, each knob is chucked up on a 4-Axis CNC mill to precision cut in the unique grid pattern that was designed to improve shifter grip. This final step is so critical that we actually have a 5% scrap rate. On cable shifter setup we found that a weighted knob can cause shifting problems for some drivers because the neutral return spring has to work harder to pull the shifter back to the center. So instead of going to the heavy side we found a good weight (5.5 oz) that is just enough to allow confident and accurate shifting while still keeping enough weight to help the front to back shifts. Shift knobs are finished in a variety of colors with our K-Tuned logo on two sides. On top we engraved our signature K logo. A custom made jam nut is included to keep the knob locked in place. The hole in the chassis will need to be opened up slightly for the G Force shifter to fit through. The assembly slides up from the bottom of the car and you use the 2 factory 8mm bolt holes in the chassis that the OEM shift linkage bolted to. Then you will mark the 4 holes on the front side of the bracket and drill the chassis. You will then install the 4 8mm bolts from inside the car, they will thread directly into the bracket.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThis setup requires 100% solid motor mounts for it to work right. Since there is no longer a stabilizer bar on the shift linkage, the engine can not move or it will try to pull the shifter out of gear. The fact that everything has to be 100% on the length of the shift linkage, since there’s no stabilizer bar, means that we cannot complete the linkage 100% before shipping. The linkage will be sent with everything complete except the last U joint at the trans. It allows you to remove the stock collar and use our nut as a shift boot collar and lock nut. The installation process for this is a little unique but easily manageable. We have replaced the stamped steel base plate with a 0.35\" aluminum plate which will be sturdier and not rust over time. This aluminum plate will also add to the rigidity and feel of the shifter. Since this is what holds the bearing assembly we have found the stock plate to have play, be rotted, or not even there if using new aftermarket linkage. We have also added one more threaded hole to increase the rigidity further and triangulate the assembly. Now, this all wrapped around the redesigned lower shaft. We have maintained the adjustable throw from our original shifter but made it adjustable from inside the car. The 6061 aluminum black anodized lower adjustment shaft is machined with notched section to make it easy to spin up or down to adjust the throw.
